Herculaneum excavations reveal the city buried in a few moments by the violence of Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

The city was covered by mud and lava that created over time a tuff layer high, in some places, more than 20 meters. Herculaneum is the only example in the world of an ancient city where the wooden structure of houses and furniture of everyday use remained intact.
