Baia, according to historian Licofrone, owes its name to the helmsman of Ulysses, Baio, who died in these waters. For the beauty of the place, the mild climate and the fertility of the earth, since the Roman Empire, it became a holiday resort and entertainment of Roman patricians and its emperors, especially Augustus. The latter, commissioned the architect Sergio Orata, to unite all the villas that were built in this place because it will be born a new thermal plant, for whose grandeur and magnificence was called the “Little Rome.”
